Sick...but John is here!

Sorry about the lack of updates for the past few days. Really, I haven't done much at all because the "bit of a cough" I had on Wednesday has turned into a full-blown...cold? At least I hope that is what it is.

Thursday class was mildly interesting. Literature was fine, I can't remember very much notable about it, and British Culture was actually quite interesting. Our professor spend a lot of it telling us stories from when she was a little girl during and after WWII, and first-hand accounts are always fascinating to me. However, I think that my favorite moment of class was when she observed that we all looked quite tired and one of my classmates volunteered that it had been the fourth of July the day before. Without pausing she replied "Oh so you're all hungover then yeah?" Priceless. Thursday evening I stayed in again in an effort to get better, which apparently didn't work particularly well.

Friday morning I woke up very early to meet John and let him into my building. He got here just fine, so apparently my directions were very good. We both went back to sleep, since he had barely slept at all the night before, and slept quite late. When we both woke up and ate we called our friend Tim who is also in London and made plans to meet him later for dinner. We ended up going for Vietnamese, which was relatively cheap and very tasty. Afterwards we walked around for awhile, stopped at a pub (the boys for a beer but I decided pomegranate juice would probably be better for my cold) and then walked most of the way back to my dorm since the underground was awfully crowded and hot.

This morning we slept very late again, since I was awake coughing for a good amount of the night (because I forgot to buy cough syrup yesterday...smart, I know). I think we are going to head out to some of the outdoor markets after we finish eating some brunch. I can't go to the doctor until Monday because only the emergency room is open until then (things in the UK close obscenely early, sometimes as early as 3pm, and often are not open at all on the weekends. Apparently the UCL clinic is one of those). Hopefully by then I won't need one!

Hope everyone is doing well at home, or wherever you are on your summer travels, and I will post some pictures tonight.
