Weekend Part One

Weekend here includes Thursday, since I didn't write about it the last time I was on here.

Thursday, however, was quite uneventful. John went to the British Museum and then to see our friend Tim who had just gotten back from Amsterdam, while I went dutifully to class. Literature was much livlier than usual, and my history presentation went fine, other than the fact that the fire alarm went off directly in the middle of it. Thursday night we just hung around here, bought some pre-prepared Indian food from the grocery store and had that for dinner. I think I finished reading Mrs. Dalloway. Hmm. If I remember something more interesting I'll write it down.

Friday we had signed up for a tour to go to Bath and Stonehenge, but moved it back to Saturday because I thought I should maybe go to the doctor due to my very painful tonsils. However, the doctor ended up telling me over the phone that it's probably STILL the same virus so she couldn't give me antibiotics, and not to bother going in. Still, it was nice to sleep a bit later and then head out into the city. John and I went to the Tate Modern to see the exhibit on urban growth, which was really fabulous and educational but difficult to walk through for more than an hour and a half or so because of the huge amount of information. Then we ate a picnic lunch by the Thames and stopped at the recreation of Shakespeare's Globe to buy tickets for Love's Labour's Lost on Sunday evening (we bought the cheap standing seats, so we'll see how that goes). After that, we took the tube to Camden Town and walked around the outdoor markets there, which were not as nice as the Portobello Road one last Saturday, but we're going to go back tomorrow (Sunday) when they're supposed to be the busiest and best to see how it goes. We walked back to my dorm from Camden Town (which took awhile because I made an extra-long detour by accident) and ate dinner, consisting of leftovers. I spent the night trying to write my paper and succeeding only in writing a page or so.

Today we went to Stonehenge and Bath, both of which were very beautiful, as is the countryside between those places and London. But descriptions will have to wait, I'm afraid, since I still have a paper due on Monday and a presentation on Tuesday, not to mention lots of running around London doing last minute things with John tomorrow since he leaves Monday. After that's all done I'll feel much better.
